Background

The Carnegie Endowment for International Peace is a private, nonprofit, nonpartisan organization dedicated to advancing cooperation between nations and achieving practical results. Today, the Carnegie Endowment is transforming itself into the first truly multinational – ultimately global – think tank. From Moscow to Washington to Beijing, Brussels, and Beirut, Carnegie’s global presence contributes regional perspectives to rigorous analysis for policy makers around the world.

The 2007 Carnegie International Nonproliferation Conference will take place on Monday, June 25 – Tuesday 26, 2007 at the Ronald Reagan International Trade Center in Washington, D.C.

Widely considered to be the premier event in its field, the 2007 conference will attract over 850 government officials, policy and technical experts, academics, and journalists from around the world. It presents a unique occasion to hear from some of the world’s most thoughtful and informed analysts and to exchange ideas on urgent nonproliferation issues.

This year’s conference theme is "Tomorrow’s Solutions" and will focus on tangible ideas to strengthen the rule-based nonproliferation regime.

The conference will cover a range of challenges confronting the nonproliferation regime and offer solutions through panel discussions such as:

  • Taking the total elimination of nuclear weapons seriously
  • European proposals for strengthening the nonproliferation regime
  • Managing the aftermath of the U.S. – India civilian nuclear cooperation deal
  • Implementing international measures to combat nuclear terrorism
  • Next steps after the 2007 Preparatory Committee meeting
  • The future of the U.S. nuclear arsenal
  • Making nuclear energy truly proliferation resistant
  • Assessing proposals for international fuel services
  • Alternative approaches to future space security
  • And more . . .

We are eager for your thoughtful participation and active engagement during and after the conference. Steps we take today to address the challenges above will matter greatly for future global security.
